European Union: Euro-Arab Foundation for higher education in the southern Spanish city of Grenade

Libyan artist, Dr. Maatouk Abou Rawi, is holding an exhibition at the seat of the Euro-Arab Foundation for higher education in the southern Spanish city of Grenade on the theme, “Immortalizing the Arab spring victims”.

The artist says that the exhibition, which 'immortalises the Arab revolutions, thirsting for democracy, freedom and social justice', completes the initial exhibition hosted by the same foundation in 2012, which was dedicated to the 'Illegal migrants having the dream to entering Europe'.

The Libyan artist, who stays in Andalusia, Spain, said that the 20 additional large works of art dealt with his person and his political and social life.

He said that for five years, he had been focusing his works on tough life and the Arab man.

He stressed that in his works, he used modern techniques to present 'the protests, assassinations during the Arab revolutions, inclunding the dream for a better world', in a bid to impress visitors.

The exhibition, which opened on 26 February, is due to end on 28 March.

Deal states Israel must not use EU funding activity in Occupied Territories
2014/06/09 The European Union will today give the final sign-off to a controversial joint research project with Israel, during a two-day visit to Israel by European Commission president José Manuel Barroso. Israel’s eligibility for EU science and research funding – which falls under the remit of Irish commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn – became a source of diplomatic tension last year at the same time as her department moved to enforce a clause prohibiting EU research funding for activity in the Occupied Territories. It followed reports that a recipient of EU research funding, Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories, with headquarters in Jerusalem, used some of the money for work in a factory in the Occupied Territories.
EPIA, area to produce 7-10% of world photovoltaic energy in 2018
2014/06/09 Photovoltaic energy is growing in the Middle East and North Africa and is showing great potential someday, according to a study published on Friday by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) analyzing the sector's world perspectives until 2018. If in Europe - next the boom recorded in 2011 with Italy and Germany as protagonists - there has been an inversion in the trend over the last year with fewer new systems, the opposite trend has been registered in MENA nations. Percentages remain low here compared to the Old Continent but the trend is growing, the research noted. The MENA market today makes up for approximately 2-4% of the world market but is expected to grow to 7-10% by 2018.
Turkey joins EU research and innovation programme
2014/06/05 Turkey will get full access to the European Union's new seven year research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, under an agreement signed today in Istanbul. Turkey is the third EU partner country to become associated to Horizon 2020. "Turkey is a much valued partner" European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Maire Geoghegan-Quinn said. "Horizon 2020 offers additional funding for innovation and small companies than ever before so Turkey is in a good position to see its participation in the programme increasing" she added.
Euro zone recovery slips again as pressure on ECB to act mounts
2014/06/05 Euro-area services output expanded at the strongest pace in almost three years, helping create jobs in a region suffering from low inflation, anemic increase and unemployment close to a record high. A Purchasing Managers’ Index rose to 53.2 last month from 53.1, London-based Markit Economics said today. That’s less than the May 22nd preliminary reading of 53.5. The index has held above the 50 mark, which separates increase from contraction, for 10 months. A measure of manufacturing and services activity declined to 53.5 from 54 in April. “Although the euro zone is enjoying its best performance in three years, this is an uneven, stuttering and lackluster recovery,” said Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit in London. “Employment has as well returned to increase in recent months, but the rate of economic expansion remains too low to generate enough job creation to bring unemployment down to any significant degree.”
