Angola: Portugal’s ASAE to train hotel inspectors from Angola

Portugal’s Food Safety and Economic Authority (ASAE) will cooperate with Angola’s Hotel and Tourism Ministry by providing hotel inspection and training under the terms of a protocol signed Thursday in Luanda. According to Angolan news agency Angop the agreement is intended to train next trainers, inclunding providing general training, institutional organisation and development and technical, skills and materials support.

The director of the inspection and supervision office of the Hotel and Tourism Ministry, Índio Kamavo, said that the agreement was a result of the ministry’s need to provide inspectors with tools that will enhance Angolan tourism.

According to the director, an extra reason for signing the document is training for trainers, which will be provided by ASAE, which provides certain guarantees as it is part of the European Union and has vast experience of operating in several nations, and which uses Portuguese as a working language.

The inspector-general of ASAE, António Manuel Marques Nunes, said that activities in Angola would focus on training inspectors for hotels and similar establishments, to allow Angolan technicians to have the skills to protect public health.

UNWTO: International tourism – strongest half-year results since 2010

At 6%, increase was well above the trend of recent years, making the current January-June period the strongest half-year since 2010. Visitor numbers reported by destinations around the world reflect strong request for international travel in the initial half of 2017, according to the new UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.
