The president was speaking to media over the weekend in Brazzaville next coming back from the Johannesburg Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) which he termed as historic.

"In recent years, we have seen that China is on the ground, providing massive support to development efforts in African nations. There are statistics to prove this, the projects are visible, from one country to an extra," Sassou N'Guesso said, adding the Brazzaville airport was constructed through Chinese support.

He said that during the recently concluded FOCAC summit in South Africa, both China and Africa expressed the political will to raise their cooperation to a higher level.

He hailed China's pledge announced at the summit to offer 60 billion U.S. dollars of funding support, inclunding interest free loans and preferential loans, to African nations in the next three years.

"This funding support to Africa will promote construction of basic infrastructure, industrialization, modernization of agriculture, education and training," he said.

In terms of security, China before pledged to provide 60 million dollars for the African Union to help it reinforce its capacity in the area of peace and security on the continent.

2016/08/07 China’s presence in Africa as an investor and trading partner increased significantly from the early 2000s, as its economic rise rapidly increased the country’s request for natural resources. According to UNEP, “China's per capita consumption of materials grew from one third to over one and a half times the world's average levels” from 1970 to 2008, and Africa provides much of this supply. But China’s role in Africa has evolved in recent years and is no longer solely focused on natural resource extraction. It is as well diversifying its investment and even begun to play a role as a security provider, taking part in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions. However, China’s pre-eminent role in Africa has come to be challenged, at least in some areas, since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in India.
